The UPASI Tea Research Foundation has been making scientific observations and conducting experiments on tea in the Puthutotam estate. The estate gives full support for us to carry out these field trials.

We have found that the estate management is keen to adopt scientific cultivation practices recommended by the TRF, The estate with a large area of clonal tea has been very much suitable for making observations on the performance of motorised harvesters. Our scientists periodically visit this estate and advice on different aspects of tea cultivation such as nursery grafting, training of young tea, plucking, infilling, shear harvesting, manufacturing practices and weed control.
